From the Mists V - Pronghorn - 18x24 - Digital Painting - 2021
Pronghorn is the fifth in a series dedicated to the wildlife of Montana. This series started with me trying to re-create a very old painting of an angel where I used a very loose drawing style to capture a general shape as opposed to something more refined. An idea shrouded by a mist.
I honestly can't tell you much about the Pronghorn other than to say that I've seen hundreds of them over the years. Curious spectators cautious of humanity, but also largely indifferent when we are confined in our cars and speeding along. Its features seem to steal from other animals. Stripes on the neck stolen from a zebra, a deer like body and antlers pilfered from the Grinch's dog. I can't help but think, when they glance up from grazing as I clip along at 75 mph, that they probably have more figured out than we do.
