The Broken Hearted Man - 24x36 - Digital Painting - 2013

I have found myself, at many times, lost in a profound state of sadness and emptiness. Par for the course, I'm sure, but with me those feelings have an outlet with art.

I wanted to capture the disorienting rawness of the emotion, and knew that the confines of traditional subject/form/technique wouldn't suffice. I left the canvas largely blank - a void into which this broken hearted man exists. His form is rough, hollowed, disheveled. His body blue, cold, male. His blood explodes from his chest, red, warm, depleating.

This man recovers in time, is broken again, recovers again. A cycle. It is dramatic - grasping onto this vile sense because it is real, and deep, and temporary.
